Christmas gifts 2010

My first ever pair of knitted socks :) Never thought I'd knit socks as they seemed... hmm... boring - but it was great to do and I hope my mum likes them :)

I can't say I found sock knitting thrilling, but learning how to turn the heel was useful and while they didn't come out perfect they at least seemed comfy. I loved the lace part of these and am inspired to doing some more lace projects in future.
They are knitted from Suzi Anvin's free Blackrose pattern (Rav link). I had trouble with the instructions for turning the heel but this might be due to my own lack of knowledge on what I was aiming for.

Speaking of Christmas gifts - I love Kim's gifted Cactus Garden ^_^ so much safer than a real one!

Missing treasuries

A couple of treasuries I forgot to mention earlier - Thanks to the list creators :)

Round and round and round!

Eep! what an awesome xmas night! Got to play with a spinning wheel for the first time! What a lovely relaxed celebration with way too much food and lots of yarny goodness
This 2 ply purply stuff was made using my drop spindle (yay!) but the blue bamboo below was done on the wheel my friend has borrowed - how exciting ^_^ Her evil plan to make me want a wheel by borrowing one herself has worked!
Visited a lovely shop in Beachworth called the Ardent Alpaca which had lots of yarn and wonderful fuzzy rugs. Somehow managed not to buy any yarn there - I'm way too good at not buying anything

Apologies to those not interested in my spinning adventures, there will be some more knitted/crocheted goodness to come :) Looking forward to the new Dr Who later tonight ^_^

Xmas handspun

Birthday boy has headed off to parents place for xmas lunch - I'm waiting around here for my own parents to arrive to start off the xmas celebrations - so thought I'd post a few pics

After the 5 hour bus/train trip from Beachworth the other day I'm needing a little break from knitting so have been playing with my drop spindle and dyes. Here's my latest :)

Planning to make these singles into 2ply - I think I'm getting a little better

Got The Fry Chronicles for xmas ^_^ so will go listen to him as I wait for peeps to arrive :)
