Chimera progress

Sadly no Wednesday Wonders this week (or last week). Work draining all energy at the moment but hopefully that should get better from next week on. Just got home from netball (always come home with three times the energy I left with - yay!) so am quickly going to show off my latest knit:

This is my right glove from Julia Mueller's (from Laris Designs) Chimera - a pattern I had been lusting after for months and months (and not just for the awesome name). I just loved it's crazy layers and the mystery of its construction.

I wasn't disappointed - it is most enjoyable pattern I have ever knitted ^_^ and I've learned a lot from the knit about construction and pattern writing. Perfect yarn and pattern combination - feels so cosy and perfectly sized when wearing.

To knit this pattern you’d want to be pretty comfy with working in the round, it’s a quite tight knit (esp. first double layer section and thumb) - love the rolled sections/edges, and cool to see that an alternative method for those not comfy with the technique is provided. Left glove almost done too :)

Parallel skills

So both skills I've been practicing this month involve pushing a pedal...

Luckily I didn't get them mixed up and 'spin' the car though, so it's all good :)
And now I'm allowed to broom broom around town all by myself (and I can treadle pretty fast so watch out ;))

Making it up as I go along

I cast on for 2 socks on 1 circular needle yesterday on the train - I've only knitted one pair of socks before, and am not following any instructions on how two at once works, which made me muse a little on how sometimes I feel I am strange for a knitter/crocheter:

• Generally finish everything I start
• Feel excitement rather than worry at the thought of trying difficult techniques
• Love to self-teach and don't really enjoy being taught by others
• Prefer to experiment rather than following patterns

This can be good for some things (like trying new things), but also less good (as working from patterns is a great way of broadening knowledge)

Wondering if anyone else shares these tendencies? - they aren't ones I often encounter in crafters I meet (or else I don't know that they are).

Back from Sydney

This Opera House resembling fiber (Tourmaline 5 by laughingrat) possibly gives a better impression of the real thing than my blurry photos:
