  3. V. cute. Thanks for sharing how to make this. Quick question, what is the weight of the yarn you used?

    Cheers.

    Hi Tanya, I generally use
DK weight (8 ply (11 wpi)), but mgrande's plushie which you can see at the bottom of this post: (http://pixelatedmushroom.blogspot.com/2010/06/adventures-in-crochet.html) used Aran weight (10 ply (8 wpi)) and it turned out lovely too.

I would just stress the need to be consistent across the whole plushie, I made one with a mix of the two and the coat didn't fit as well as it does if you use consistent weight.

Will look forward to seeing him if you create one :)

Thanks for the info and I will be sure to share how he turned out when I get comfortable enough at crocheting... my sister is currently trying to teach me. Wish me luck!

  7. I just found all these doctor who patterns, and they have MADE MY YEAR! I love amigurumi and I am shamelessly obsessed with Doctor Who. I have that "Have you hugged you timelord today?" background, and I've been despairing that I in fact have not hugged my timelord. Now I can make my own huggable-lovable Doctors and Tardises (That really can't be pluralized can it...) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :D

  9. Thanks for posting this fantastic pattern! I just got all the supplies for it, but I have a few questions on the pattern. I'm still learning on reading patterns, so please bear with me. :)

When doing the magic circle, do you close off each round with a slip stitch, or do you just keep going?

Second, when decreasing, what method should I use, skipping a stitch or pulling through 3 loops over two stitches?

    Thanks for any help!

  10. Hi Amanda,
yay, hope you'll enjoy the pattern!

    1. you don't need to close each row with a slip st, when you get to the end of the row just place your marker and start the new row :)

    2. I use the 3 loops over 2 decrease ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcycT1YmSSM ) :)

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions along the way! Happy crocheting! :)

  14. Yay :) thanks! I'll probably post a pic up for next week's wednesday wonder ^_^

If you wrote down what you did, and are interested in doing something like the rose pattern-add-on that would be cool so others can make a river too ^_^

  15. Hello again!

Things are going well! I do have a question. Could you clarify what lines 10 and 19 in the head pattern mean? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Amanda,
sure, I'll do my best to make it a bit clearer:

    Row 10)
    - make single crochets in the first and the second stitches of the row

    - make an increase in the third stitch of the row

    - (make single crochets into the next ten stitches, then an increase) <-repeat this step until you reach the end of the row and don't worry if it ends in the middle of a repeat

    Row 19)
    - make single crochets in the first and the second stitches of the row

    - make a decrease which joins the 3rd and 4th stitches of the row

    - (make single crochets into the next ten stitches, then a decrease) <-repeat this step until you reach the end of the row and don't worry if it ends in the middle of a repeat

I hope this helps! Let me know if it doesn't and I'll draw you a chart that might help :)

    Happy crocheting!
    Nyss

  17. I am a huge Doctor Who fan, as are many of my friends, so when I saw this pattern, I immediately resolved to learn the art of crochet. ^<^ After learing my basics, I'm planning on making two Tennants and a Smith for my friends. I was wondering though, as I am having some difficulties finding 8ply yarn in my town, And also I'm a teenager with a limited fund, if I could use a different yarn, such as RedHeart or the like? I'm a noob, so have mercy on my unknowing soul. ;) Thank you for your help!

    Hello :)
so happy the pattern has inspired you to learn crochet :) there's a lot of doctor who stuff out there for you one you can do it :p

RedHeart is definitely fine :) if you're finding it a bit hard to pull through each loop, try going up one hook size to account for the yarn being a bit thicker than 8ply. with the plushies though it doesn't matter too much :)

Zanooka made this guy using RedHeart and based on the big and cuddly pattern, and he turned out really well :) http://pixelatedmushroom.blogspot.com/2011/03/wednesday-wonders-zanookas-vivi-and.html

  20. Hi! Um...I wanted to know, to do the hair, how many times should you wrap the yarn around the card? :S

Also, this pattern is great. ^^ I'm gonna make my friend one for christmas. Thank you for posting it. ^^

Hello! sorry I didn't make this more exact - it changed depending on the thickness of yarn and how tightly the head is stuffed.

I just wrapped the strands closely next to eachother until it covered about 2inches of card (as pictured in the pattern), then I held it over the head of my plushie to see that it would have good coverage of the head. If not, I wrapped a bit more. You can always give it a good trim later too.

Hope this helps a bit! and you've got a lucky friend, I'm sure they'll love it :)

    Thank you again! Haha, I'm terrified she won't, to be honest. XD I always seem to mess up my plushies...especially with the arms and legs. ^^;
